The topic for this year’s “Today” Summit, held in Vasant Valley School, was ‘Design-thinking and Empathy’ and to say that it was very different from your usual competition would perhaps be the biggest understatement of all time. We started the workshop, or as we’d decided to call it, ‘boot camp’, talking about what design-thinking and empathy are and how they can change one’s life. We then continued on with a simulation to test our design thinking skills and it couldn’t have possibly been better, specially given that we had to work with students from other schools. Then we had an actual ‘design-thinking’ session with the school sitting opposite us, us telling them and them telling us what was the one problem they had with their school and then both teams had to solve that problem for the other school. This workshop led me to getting to know so many people and to learn and realise so much, from completing the given assignments in time to actually thinking about others more than yourself. It was an amazing learning experience for me and I cannot wait to look into this intriguing new topic more and to work with my team for it.
