A ‘Sensitivity’ Workshop, to raise awareness about children with ‘special needs‘, was organized by Rishabh Khetawat, alumnus of G.D. Goenka Public School, in the school premises on 5 August2019.
The workshop was organized for the students of class 9 and was conducted by Devanshi Khetawat, a final year Psychology student at the University of Bath, in order to sensitize students about the needs of the ‘differently- abled’. Devanshi has done Voluntary Work at Orkids (NGO for learning Disabled) New-Delhi and is an Assistant Psychologist at Oxford Children Hospital in Oxford, U.K. The objective of the workshop was to make the students empathetic towards children with ‘special needs’ and their ‘day to day struggles’ thereby helping them realize their true potential through genuine regard and support.
The impetus behind the success of the workshop was the creatively contrived set of exercises and games that helped further emphasize on the message that children with special needs are ‘truly special’ and need our love and cooperation to come into their own.
The students of our school were receptive during the presentation and gained a better perspective on children with special needs.
