In the second week of September, Meeru Pande from English Department of G. D. Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi attended “Memorable Moments”- an interaction of educationists with the renowned writer, Ruskin Bond, recipient of the Sahitya Academy Award and the Padma Shri for his contribution to children’s literature. This interaction was organised by Ratna Sagar, the leading publisher, service provider and supplier of educational books, at The Park Hotel, New Delhi.
The session began with Ruskin Bond addressing the gathering, recalling memorable moments of his childhood and the indelible influence of mother nature on his writing. The conversation led to the mention of ghost stories and many among the audience recalled their spine chilling experiences in real life. Ruskin Bond delighted the educators by reciting a poem composed by him on the spot about the teachers of New Delhi. Some children present among the audience wanted the writer to guide them in writing and Bond gave very interesting tips about it. Many were curious about what made a tap dancer decide to become a writer and Bond related his journey animatedly and also spoke about his love for Bollywood songs. He insisted on the need to encourage children to read and inspire them to write. Ratna Sagar presented everyone with Bond’s book “At School With Ruskin Bond”. The evening was full of joy and laughter and ended with everyone taking the famous writer’s autograph on his book. The large spread of eats by Ratna Sagar was more than welcomed by all present.
