Goenkans promptly step forward when the society is in dire need of help.
Jivesh Makkar of 12D, with his undying love for service to humanity, runs a community service campaign called BackPack Heroes.
Under this campaign, he set up rescue and relief efforts during the first and second waves of Covid-19 infections and continued with redevelopment support during the unlocking phases and vaccination campaign. Through the entire duration of his campaign he successfully organised and implemented the following action plans:
Covid-19 Wave 1 and Lockdown
- Raised funds through friends and family
- Supported families of migrant workers and others, stranded or left without wages, unable to afford food and other necessities during the nationwide lockdown
- Donated food, reusable masks and face shields, hand sanitisers, gloves
- Collected and donated toys/books/clothes for the underprivileged children
- Assisted migrants in studying the Shramik train routes and schedules to identify the trains going towards their villages
- Informed families about Covid-19 symptoms, isolation and quarantine measures and the importance of timely testing
- Educated the families using posters and interactive talks about covid appropriate behaviour and the importance of continuing to adhere to Covid protocol even in the villages
- Collaborated with Rasoi on Wheels to improve outreach and strengthen the supply chains for the underprivileged
Covid-19 Wave II and Severe Shortage of Healthcare
- Supported treatment and recovery by registering people diagnosed with Covid-19 with the Delhi Government portal to supply free medication and monitoring devices
- Supplied pulse-oximeters and thermal scanner at the peak of the second wave when the Government supplies were insufficient
- Cross checked government portals to identify available quarantine facilities and hospital beds with or without oxygen support based on the guidance of the treating expert
