On 6th September,Wednesday,2017, 36 students of Class X accompanied by two teachers went to see a play ‘I am Your Love Story’ by Pramila Le Hunte
The play confronts issues of continued racism,bogus elitism and class divide in a post-independent modern India and issues of terrorism, marginalisation and religious domination on a global level.
The day after Teachers Day ,we all came to school expecting the same long day, 10 periods of studies but little did we know that our school would surprise us by taking us for a play, ‘I Am Your Love Story’, by Pramila Le Hunte.
The play opened and the two characters, Babaji, who was dressed as Gandhi and a news reporter looking for a new story to publish were on stage. For one and a half hour we were entertained by six actors, out of which ‘Charles’ a British actor, Hector Moss, was loved by all girls for his looks and talent. We all thought the play was one that depicted romance, but to our surprise it wasn’t. The play was about, Wendy, an Anglo-Indian, who returned to India in 1952, to Calcutta, to re-discover herself. Wendy was set up to meet Auntyji, a high society woman who symbolized bogus elitism, and found Wendy very beautiful and suitable for her son, Rohan. On finding out, and learning about the family, Wendy refused to be associated with them.
The play revolves around the prejudices of present-day society. After the play was over we had a session of meditation along with the actors followed by a discussion about the play.
It was an amazing experience and we hope our school continues to take us for such educational, yet fun trips. The teachers accompanying us were, Bella Batheja ma’am and Ruchi Badia ma’am.
Overall it will remain a memorable and unforgettable experience.
