The 9th Gayatri Devi Goenka Memorial Basketball Tournament 2017, was held at G.D. Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, from 24th October to 01st November, 2017.

The Invitational tournament has received tremendous support and enthusiasm in the city and this year 21 teams participated and showcased the best talent in Basketball. 12 Boys teams and 9 Girls teams played matches that were closely contested and fast paced. Seven days were filled with a lot of excitement, cheering, fun and high voltage athletic performances. All matches were played under the supervision and guidance from the officials of the Basketball Federation of India.

All the coaches and team members adhered to the spirit of sportsmanship and new friendships and camaraderie flourished on the court!

All students had one thing in common: their passion for Basketball. The Principal, Mr. Sanjay Yadav encouraged the teams to think as Champions. He motivated them with the words: ‘Compete hard, indulge in fair play, respect the game and also the opposition! The Vice Principal, Mrs. Swadesh Kumar, ensured that all teams played in the true spirit of the game and raised the standards of their performance to greater heights.

Some outstanding matches were played in the Quarter final and Semifinal fixtures. The Final was an exciting and tense match for both the girls and the boys.

The 2nd Runners Up trophy, Boys, was bagged by Ramjas School, R.K. Puram; the 2nd Runners Up trophy, Girls, went to G.D. Goenka, Vasant Kunj. The 1st Runners Up, Boys, was the team from New Green Fields School and Queen Valley School were the 1st Runners Up, girls.

The tournaments’ winners were Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, Girls’ team and G.D. Goenka, Vasant Kunj, Boys team.

The Champions received their glittering trophies, gift certificates and mementoes from the Principal and Vice Principal at the Closing Ceremony of the Tournament. Awards for Fair play, most promising player, most talented player were also given. All teams, Coaches and Officials were felicitated and the efforts of the Sports Department was appreciated for the success of the Tournament.
