G D Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, prides itself on a happy workforce of over 150 faculty members and a large support staff of lab assistants, attendants etc.
The school employs competent faculty members qualified to accomplish the mission and goals of the institution. When determining acceptable qualifications of its faculty, the school gives primary consideration to the educational qualifications and also attaches great importance to competence, effectiveness, and capacity, including, related work experiences in the field, professional degrees and certifications, honors and awards, continuous documented excellence in teaching, or other demonstrated competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes.
Faculty at our school is recruited after a rigorous selection process which is followed by in house training, orientation, remuneration package, designed to attract the best talent and to provide the suitable career-enhancement, job enrichment and increased sense of achievement and belongingness.
The management encourages the faculty to upgrade their specialization and pursue any research work to develop their talents further.
Pre Primary and Early Primary School (Nursery to Grade II)
At the Pre-Primary and early Primary years, the objective is to facilitate learning by creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for them to learn joyfully.
Teaching Pedagogy is child centric and activity oriented using numerous teaching aids: Power Point, flashcards, pictures, puppets, actual objects, storytelling, dramatization and role play, etc. The endeavour is to involve the children in the discussions, gently guiding them, eliciting the right answers.
The Foundation Years are developed focusing on 5 core areas of learning: Math, Language, Life Science, Music & Art. Use of technology both by the teacher and student has been emphasized throughout the curriculum, making it a forward-looking document, preparing and developing student thinking for the world of tomorrow. The curriculum provides interesting worksheets, film clips and other resources for the teachers to use. Children learn in large groups and smaller groups. The curriculum also includes a set of varied assessment strategies teachers can use.
PRIMARY SCHOOL (GRADE III to V)
The Primary School aims to inculcate foundational knowledge in various subjects in our young students. The focus is on reading and writing, language comprehension, math, critical thinking and inter-personal skills. The key subjects are English, Hindi, mathematics, EVS, art & craft, computer science and physical education. A third language (German, French, Spanish, Sanskrit) is added in Grade 5.
Learning reinforcement is provided through worksheets in every subject, and activity based teaching. English oratory classes and math lab are ways in which learning is strengthened through practice. Dictations and class tests are taken at regular intervals. In addition, tutorial classes are provisioned during school hours for the extra support that the kids may need.
Teaching is multi-modal and interactive, with smart boards provided in every class. Further, care is taken to attend to the special needs of every child. Children with special learning needs, have the assistance of special educators and counselors.
We emphasize on all round development of children, with multiple opportunities for play and sports, as well as participation in cultural programs. Value education is another feature of our curriculum, to instill the right values at an early age.
The Middle Section (Grade VI to VIII)
The middle section aims to give a quantum jump to the knowledge assimilated in the foundation years and to further strengthen the basics of the student.
The subjects included in the curriculum in the middle section are:
- Three languages, English and Hindi being compulsory and an addition language from out of Spanish, French, German and Sanskrit.
- Apart from the languages the other subjects are Social Science, Mathematics, Science and Computer.
We take resource to various strategies to make their stay in the school fruitful and educative.
Structured lesson plans are prepared to impart the knowledge and application in the subjects. These are supplemented with worksheets, smart boards, and activities such as experiments, dramatization, assignments, projects and a multitude of other knowledgeenhancing media.
A lot of emphasis is given to spoken English. Activities to polish their oratory skills are held and children are encouraged to think out of the box and enhance their creative abilities.
IT education and use of technology in education is updates so as to keep abreast with the latest in technology.
Smart-board modules are used to supplement teaching of complex concepts in a more effective manner so as to enhance understanding and retention.
A Math lab has been set up where children learn mathematical concepts in a different and unique manner. Regular demonstrations of experiments and activities, visit to Science Labs are integral part of teaching Science.
Special educators and Counselors care for children with Special Education Needs giving special attention to them and modifying the lessons according to their individual requirements. Regular remedial classes are held to support students to help them keep pace with the rest.
Group and individual Counseling sessions are held from time to time to inculcate values and help our students deal with burning issues such as bullying, cyber safety, peer pressure, personal hygiene, respect for elders, career opportunities etc
Workshops are often conducted giving a broader perspective to the students on various topics of academic interest and value education.
Physical Education is an indispensable element on the continuum where listings of essential pre-requisites for personality development are drawn. The sports activities of Goenkan institution are formulated with a perspective of mass participation with an aim of health and fitness to each and every participant. Besides the aim of instilling sportsman spirit and enhancement of overall personality development, it eyes a larger goal of competitive participation beyond school – at Zonal, State, National and International levels. This purpose is served through regular coaching from grass root level, organization and participation in various inter-house and inter-school sports & games. Gamut of activities conducted, are briefly described below:
Basketball – A Basketball court conforming to international standard aptly fulfills the aim of generating greater interest in the game amongst the students. This coupled with the conduction of Gayatri Devi Goenka Memorial Basketball Tournament annually, in which several prominent schools from NCR participate, gives the right impetus to the students in opting for this sport
Football - Football activity is conducted as per the requirements of individual age groups with skills gradually getting coalesced with modern football techniques.
Cricket - Cricket activity grooms the talent in such a way as to make them fit for the requirements of State, National and International participation.
Swimming - Swimming activity in a standard size pool within the campus. Each and every child coming for this activity is individually taken care of, with an aim to prepare for competition,with adequate measures taken towards ensuring their safety and security.
Volleyball - Volleyball activity generates interest and pushes the existing talent to forefront. Volleyball activity is conducted for senior level.
Athletics - Athletics activity is conducted on the field with standard 200 m track to train children eying medals at different competitive levels.
Taekwondo - Taekwondo activity stresses Self-defenseand is conducted as per the procedures set by the Taekwondo Association. During tournaments, certificates of achievements and belts as per grading are donned on the participants.
Gymnasium - The state-of-the-art Gym aims at providing infrastructure in order to enable students to maintain overall fitness, strength and endurance. Apart from that, it facilitates in improving performance in other games as well.
Table Tennis - Children who are enthusiastically inclined towards this sport, are imparted training for participation in tournaments at Zonal, State and National level.
Aerobics - The students follow a fitness regime in school which incorporates physical exercises in combination with rhythmic aerobics, exercises like stretching and strength-training. The aim is to improve general health of the students by incorporating all elements of fitness.
Yoga - Yoga classes form an important part of the curriculum in order to train the students to coordinate their mental, physical and spiritual abilities. It not only provides de-stressing and relaxation to the body but aims at combating a variety of illness through breathing techniques and postures taught in the yoga class.
Gymnastics - Gymnastics as an activity aims at improving coordination, flexibility, speed and agility. Under strict supervision and guidance of our gymnastics instructors, the students learn to enhance their motor skills.
